Diorama workshop

What: Learn to make a diorama as well as how to preserve plants, construct false rocks, clouds and water, replicate textures and sculpt animals. All projects will be made from recycled materials and objects found in nature. Limited to 15 students ages 10 and up. Register in advance.

When: 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Feb. 4

Gullah Heritage series

What: Celebrate Gullah heritage with free programs every Saturday in February and March. Programs range from craft and cooking demonstrations to storytelling, music and dance performances. Bring the kids.

Oyster Roast Fundraiser

What: Join the Preservation Society of Charleston for food, music and fun at its February Oyster Roast. Featuring music performed by the South Carolina Broadcasters. Proceeds benefit Quarters A, a PSC 2011 Seven to Save site. Newcomers to PSC will receive a free one-year membership with ticket purchase. Optional 1 p.m. tour of the Navy Yard "Power House." Tickets for the tour $10 or $5 with the purchase of a ticket to the oyster roast.

When: 2-5 p.m. Feb. 4

Where: Quarters H&I at the Charleston Navy Yard Officers Quarters Historic District, 96-98 Navy Way

Price: Tickets are $35 in advance, $45 after Feb. 2; $10 children under 12.

St. Paul's Garden Club

What: The program will be on "Making Traditional Floral Designs" given by Edith Lucas, chairman of the St. Phillip's Flower Guild and member of the Garden Club of Charleston and Lawton Bluff Garden Club. The public is welcome to attend.

Land Trust meeting

What: The Lowcountry Open Land Trust is hosting a meeting for the public to share thoughts on the conservation community's successes, opportunities, issues and strategies most important to protecting their quality of life. Marc Smiley, from the Portland-based company Decisions Decisions, will facilitate the meeting.

When: 5:30 p.m. Feb. 8

Thursday, Feb. 9

Magnolia Garden Club

What: After the business meeting, Collette DeGarady, senior conservation ecologist for S.C. Nature Conservancy, will discuss the Conservancy's restoration work at the Washo Reserve. Hostess members will serve lunch.
