A highway patrol trooper investigates a crash early Friday in which a Toyota struck a North Charleston police officer’s cruiser on Ashley Phosphate Road.
A North Charleston police officer was hurt Friday morning after his unmarked cruiser collided with a car that pulled in front of him.
Officer Paul Hernandez, 44, suffered minor injuries in the wreck around 8:45 a.m. on Ashley Phosphate Road.
According to the S.C. Highway Patrol, a 2006 Toyota Corolla turned left toward Lincoln Patriot Boulevard and crashed into the front of Hernandez's Chevrolet Impala, which was westbound on Ashley Phosphate. The wreck closed eastbound Ashley Phosphate for about an hour.
Both drivers were wearing a seat belt and were taken to St. Francis Hospital.
The Toyota's driver, 30-year-old Kristle Cassel, was ticketed for failure to yield the right of way.
