Monday
Kinderpuppy Class
What: In this course, puppies are taught basic obedience commands. Socialization is encouraged with both people and other puppies. Trainers will be on hand to offer advice. Puppies must have three DHLPP vaccinations plus a kennel cough vaccination in order to attend. A rabies vaccination is not necessary if your puppy is too young. First class is orientation and human only, leave your pups at home.
When: 6:30-7:30 p.m. Mondays beginning Jan. 23.
Where: Charleston Animal Society, 2455 Remount Road.
Price: $120; $102 for CAS adopters (six-week course).

Tuesday
Puppy Manners
What: This class offers ample time for socialization with other pups and people. Puppies under six months are taught basic manners skills. First class is orientation and human only, leave your pup at home. Bring a copy of vaccination records to class.

What: This class is for dogs who are more than 6 months old with or without previous training. While their people are taught to be clear and concise in their communication, dogs are taught basic manner skills. Bring a copy of vaccination records to class. Saturday
Kennel Club Dog Show
What: The Charleston Kennel Club dog show draws in more than 1,000 registered dogs. Show chairman Ricki Silveria said the licensed all-breed show will accept entries in Obedience and Rally for mixed-breed dogs enrolled in the AKC Canine Partners Program. This allows mixed breeds to complete and earn the same titles as purebreds.
When: 8 a.m.-5 p.m. Jan. 28 and 29.
Where: Exchange Park Fairgrounds, 9850 Highway 78.
Price: Admission is $2 and parking is free, with the exception of parking inside the grounds, which is $5 per day.

K-9 Casino, Kitty Kat Klub
What: Hosted by Cari and Michael Auger. This event, benefitting Pet Helpers, features a roulette table, craps and blackjack tables, bar, hors d'oeuvres, auctions and other surprises. Black tie optional.
When: 6:30 p.m. Jan. 28.
Where: Harborside East, Bridgeside Boulevard, Mount Pleasant.
Price: $75.

Adopt-a-Thon
What: The Charleston Animal Society will have adoptable pets on site.
When: 10 a.m.-2 p.m. first and third Saturday of every month.

Wednesday, Feb. 8
Beginner's Doga
What: Class will begin with a 15-minute warm-up walk followed by approximately 35-40 minutes of doga. Suitable for beginners. Students should bring a mat or towel, water and dog leash (no retractable leashes). Limit one dog per person.
When: 6:30-7:30 p.m. Feb. 8, 15 and 22.
Where: Charleston Animal Society, 2455 Remount Road.
Price: $60; ($51 for CAS adopters; 15 percent discount).

Puppy Club
What: Puppy Club members are invited to join a monthly play date to learn proper socialization techniques. Each month you must register as space is limited. Bring proof of current vaccinations to each play date. Puppies must have all vaccinations (16 weeks and older).
When: 10-11 a.m. second Saturday of each month.
Where: Charleston Animal Society, 2455 Remount Road.
Price: Free with a donation to shelter.

What: Adoption counselors from the Francis R. Willis SPCA are on hand to help visitors find a new best friend.
