USC's big win over Clemson watched by touted targets

South Carolina picked a good time to play one of its best games of the season Saturday. In the crowd for the win over Clemson were a number of major prospects the Gamecocks are targeting for 2012, 2013 and beyond. Three 2012 targets were in on official visits: defensive back Jordan Diggs of Fort Myers, Fla.; running back Keith Marshall of Raleigh, and DB Chaz Elder of College Park, Ga.

Diggs, being recruited for the spur position, said he left impressed. The visit was the fifth for Diggs, whose other stops were Nebraska, Tennessee, Vanderbilt and Michigan State. All are still in the mix, and he will narrow the list closer to the Army All-American Game, when he will announce. He's expecting a visit from USC's Steve Spurrier within a couple of weeks.

Marshall's trip wrapped up his official visits, and a highlight was meeting with head coach Steve Spurrier. He took his other official visits to Clemson, Notre Dame, Florida and Georgia, and does not have a favorite. He is expecting coaches from Clemson, USC, Florida and Georgia to visit him before his Dec. 6 announcement.

Elder also visited USC unofficially for the Florida game but got a chance to check things out a little more closely. He said USC is still out front, and he plans to announce at the Under Armour Game. He'll also take an official visit to Georgia in December and might visit Vandy.

In other recruiting news:

Junior WR Tramel Terry of Goose Creek and teammate Gerald Turner, a junior linebacker, were at the USC-Clemson game, with both teams are high on the their lists. Terry named USC, Clemson, Alabama and Georgia as schools of high interest. Turner is planning return visits to USC and Clemson during the basketball season and does not have a favorite.

Turner has offers from USC and Clemson. Georgia, North Carolina, N.C. State, Tennessee, Georgia Tech, Florida and Virginia are showing interest in him among others. Other games he attended included the Wofford and Florida State games at Clemson, and Tennessee-USC. He likes both in-state schools and does not have a favorite but said doesn't want to go too far from home.

OL Jonathan McLaughlin of Mauldin took an unofficial visit to N.C. State for the Clemson game. He did not receive an offer. His offers include Wake Forest, Marshall and East Carolina.

USC and Clemson continue to keep Gaffney WR Quinshad Davis on hold. His coach, Dan Jones, said Tennessee and UNC have stepped up their interest of late. Davis also is hoping Georgia will come through with an offer. He was at USC-Clemson. He has offers from N.C. State, Wake and Illinois.

USC and Clemson target DE Jonathan Bullard of Shelby, N.C., made his final official visit to Florida over the weekend. He's also been to USC, Clemson and Nebraska. He plans to make his decision within a couple of weeks.

Another USC target, DE Ty McCord of Tampa, made an unofficial visit to Florida for the FSU game. He was at USC officially for The Citadel game. He plans an official visit to Southern Cal and is also looking at Miami and Georgia.

USC still has work to do to keep the commitment of TE Kelvin Rainey of Yulee, Fla., secure, with Rainey still looking at Arkansas. He took official visits to both schools this month. He will graduate in December and does not have a timetable for a decision. He's expecting a visit from USC recruiter Steve Spurrier Jr. this week.

USC continues to work OL Joey O'Connor of Windsor, Colo., for one of his official visits. Steve Spurrier Jr. first contacted him when he de-committed from Penn State, and he recently talked with Steve Spurrier for the first time. He has taken one official visit to Penn State. He also has talked recently to the coaches at Tennessee, Boise State, UCLA and Cal.

Former USC signee OL Quincy McKinney of Fork Union Prep, Va., took an official visit to N.C. State for the Clemson game. He visits Rutgers and Mississippi State the next two weekends but does not plan any other official visits. USC is no longer involved.

One of the nation's top junior quarterbacks, Riley Ferguson of Matthews, N.C., attended USC's practice last Wednesday. Ferguson talked with USC quarterbacks coach and recruiter G.A. Mangus, and interest on both sides has increased since then. Ferguson has offers from Clemson, Michigan, LSU, Louisville and Virginia Tech, he has said Clemson is his favorite. He also has Virginia Tech, Florida and Arkansas also high on his list.

Junior OL Brandon Smith of Kernersville, N.C., has Clemson and UNC in his top two among a host of schools showing interest. He has attended several games at Clemson and also has been to games at UNC, Duke and N.C. State. He does not have a favorite.

Junior OL Joey Bloomfield of Louisville is hearing from Clemson, Louisville, Kentucky, Tennessee, Stanford and Boston College. He is showing interest in the Tigers after attending the FSU game at Death Valley.

Junior OL Brandon Kublanow of Marietta, Ga., was at Auburn for the Iron Bowl and was at Georgia the weekend before that. He plans to visit USC during the off season. He has offers from Georgia, Georgia Tech, Duke and Vanderbilt, and USC, Tennessee and Alabama also are showing interest.
