Myrtle Beach named a top retirement destination
BY ADVA SALDINGER
MYRTLE BEACH -- "Where to Retire" magazine has named Myrtle Beach one of the top retirement destinations.
The national magazine, geared at helping retirees choose where to relocate, is profiling Myrtle Beach in a story titled "8 Enticing Money-Saver Towns" in its September/October issue. The issue is already out.
Myrtle Beach has qualities important to retirees today, magazine editor Mary Lu Abbott said in a statement.
"Myrtle Beach draws thousands of vacationers each year, and many decide it's the perfect spot to retire, with a high number of attractions and a low cost of living. Dining, shopping and entertainment options abound, but you can also find your own quiet spot," she said.
About 700,000 Americans relocate to retire each year, according to "Where to Retire" magazine. Those retirees generally bring economic benefits to the states and cities where they move, according to a statement from the magazine.
Augusta, Ga.; Huntsville, Ala.; Paducah, Ky.; Shreveport, La.; Nacogdoches, Texas; Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Logan, Utah, also made the list of enticing money-saver towns.
