Restaurant Week menus varied
By Warren Wise
Charleston Restaurant Week runs Wednesday through Sept. 19, when more than 50 participating local restaurants offer three-course menus for $20 and $30.
From casual to fine dining, the options span the local culinary scene. The Charleston area is the only place outside of New York City to produce three consecutive James Beard Foundation award-winning chefs, and Travelocity named it one of the world's 10 Best Delicious Destinations for Foodies.
From the sophisticated presentation of The Ocean Room at The Sanctuary at Kiawah Island Golf Resort's tilefish to the savory spanakopita of the family-owned Zeus Grill, participating restaurants range from elegant dining rooms to the more casual.
Tickets are not required; however, reservations are strongly advised. Offerings vary at each restaurant. For a list of participating restaurants, go to www.charlestonrestaurantweek.com.
The next installment of Restaurant Week is set for Jan. 14-22. The event is organized by the Charleston Restaurant Association.

Family-owned and operated Palmetto Exterminators is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year. Started in 1960 in Walterboro, the pest control company has eight locations in S.C., N.C. and Georgia, including operations in Charleston and Summerville. Bud and Lil Snyder bought the company in 1976 and it has remained in the family through brothers Bert and Lance Snyder.

Eighty-seven food banks in the Southeast will receive a boost in the coming weeks as Mauldin-based Bi-Lo works to provide pet food through the company's PAWS Premium promotion.
The event, through Sept. 28, hopes to double the more than 60 tons of pet food donated last year. Shoppers can purchase a bag of Bi-Lo brand pet food, PAWS Premium, for $5 that will then be donated to food banks. The bags can be placed in "Feed the Love" donation bins at the store entrance. Customers who participate will receive an additional 5 cents in fuelperks! rewards.
