Supplements

Prolatis' of Salt Lake City, Utah, is recalling dietary supplements sold under the name Prolatis'. The company says the Food and Drug Administration has determined that the products contain sulfoaildenafil, an FDA-approved drug for male erectile dysfunction, making the products unapproved drugs. The active drug ingredient is not listed on the product label. The undeclared ingredient may interact with nitrates found in some prescription drugs such as nitroglycerin and may lower blood pressure to dangerous levels. Consumers with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart disease often take nitrates. The recalled products were manufactured before Aug. 9. Details: by phone at 877-286-5056.

Also, J&H Besta Corp. is recalling an additional lot of Slim-30 Herb Supplement because it contains weight-loss ingredients that have not been approved for the product. The Hicksville, N.Y., company said the product was found to contain N-Desmethyl sibutramine and traces of sibutramine, drugs used as an appetite suppressant for weight loss. The FDA has not approved this product, so its safety and effectiveness is unknown. Also, sibutramine can substantially increase blood pressure and pulse rate in some patients and might be a risk for patients with a history of heart issues or strokes.

The product was sold to distributors and retail stores nationwide as well as online. The affected code is 6032101. The company recalled Lot 032009 in July. Details: by phone at 516-735-1436.
