Two men drowned and another was injured Saturday morning after the car they were riding in plunged into Penny Creek in the Parkers Ferry area, according to the Charleston County Sheriff's Office.

Roman Holmes, 28, of Hollywood and Deangelo Holmes, 19, of Adams Run were pronounced dead at the scene of the 5:30 a.m. wreck, Charleston County Deputy Coroner Brittney Martin said.

The men are reportedly related, but authorities could not say how.

Sheriff's deputies were called to the Penny Creek boat landing to check on reports of a car in the water. They found a blue 1988 Chevolet Caprice fully submerged in the creek, Sheriff's Maj. John Clark said.

One man had escaped from the car, and he told deputies two others were still inside the vehicle. Divers from the sheriff's office and the county rescue squad located the two men and removed their bodies from the car, Clark said.

The sheriff's office traffic squad will be conducting the follow-up investigation. Currently, there are no charges pending, Clark said. The incident is being treated as an accident and no foul play is suspected, he said.

The survivor was transported to St. Francis Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Clark said. Deputies did not release that man's name.
