What: Flatwork, Foundation for Agility.

Who: Charleston Animal Society.

When: 9 a.m. weekly starting Tuesday.

Where: 2455 Remount Road, North Charleston.

Details: The fee is $99; Charleston Animal Society adopters get a 15 percent discount. No previous agility experience is necessary. Dogs must have completed an obedience class.

What: Canine Communication 101.

Who: Charleston Animal Society.

When: Puppy class, 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays or Thursdays for six weeks starting this week; Adult class, 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays.

Where: 2455 Remount Road, North Charleston.

Details: The fee is $99; Charleston Animal Society adopters get a 15 percent discount. Socialization with other dogs and people is a major focus. Specific obedience commands will also be taught. Please bring a copy of vaccination records to the class.

What: Seventh annual PAWker Run.

Who: Frances R. Willis SPCA of Dorchester County.

When: Registration begins at 10 a.m. Saturday.

Details: Registration is $20 per person and includes a T-shirt, goody bag and barbecue plate lunch with dessert. Cash prizes for first, second, third and worst hands, bluegrass music and more.

What: Second annual Leslie McCravy 5K Run/Walk benefiting Pet Helpers.

Who: Pet Helpers.

When: 8 a.m. Saturday.

Where: Folly Beach Pier.

Details: Registration $30 for adults and $15 for children. No pets will be permitted on the race course.

What: Second annual Dog Day Afternoon.

Who: Charleston County Parks.

When: Noon-5 p.m. Sept. 12.

Where: Whirlin' Waters Waterpark, Wannamaker Park.

Details: Large dogs can romp around in the Big Kahuna wave pool, while their smaller counterparts can make a splash in the Otter Bay kiddie pool. Owners will not be allowed in the water. Beverages will be available for purchase to cool down the humans. Advance admission is $10 per dog ($8 per Charleston County dog) and all owners are free with their pets. Tickets are limited. Proof of current vaccinations is required for entry.

What: Canine Communication 201 Intermediate.

Who: Charleston Animal Society.

When: 7:30 p.m. for six weeks starting Sept. 16.

Where: 2455 Remount Road, North Charleston.

Details: The fee is $99; Charleston Animal Society adopters get a 15 percent discount. This class is designed for the dog with previous obedience class experience. On the last day, students will have the opportunity to take the 10-step test to receive Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certification.

What: Lowcountry Paws and Claws Pet Expo.

When: 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 18.

Where: Exchange Park Fairgrounds.

Details: Bring your furry or feathered friend to the second annual Lowcountry Paws & Claws Pet Expo, a free event sponsored by The Post and Courier, that includes fun and educational demonstrations and presentations and more.

What: Yappy Hour.

When: 4-7 p.m. Sept. 23.

Where: James Island County Park dog park.

Details: Enjoy live music and time with your pup and friends. Beverages will be available for purchase. The event is free with the general $1 park admission or with the Charleston County Parks Gold Pass.

What: Paws in the Park.

Who: Charleston Animal Society.

When: Oct. 9.

Where: Park Circle, North Charleston.

Details: Paws in the Park and Walk for the Animals is an all-day event featuring the a fundraiser, games, food, live music and activities for pets and their families.

What: Adopt-A-Thon.

Who: Charleston Animal Society.

When: 10 a.m.-2 p.m. first and third Saturday of every month.

Where: PetSmart in the Belle Hall Shopping Center, Long Point Road, Mount Pleasant.
