Lunch and Learn: Clemson Extension Master Gardeners are offering "Sowing & Growing," lunch and learn classes that start Wednesday. Local experts and Master Gardeners will lead classes on native plants, residential rainwater harvesting, fall floral designs and growing citrus in the Lowcountry. Rose Society meetings: Bill Scribner will present "New Garden Products and a Few Secrets" at the Sept. 13 Lowcountry Rose Society meeting. Kathy Woolsey of Cypress Gardens will present "Rooting Old Rose Varieties" at the organization's Oct. 4 meeting. The public may join them at 7 p.m. for refreshments and 7:30 p.m. for the programs on both evenings. Day of Caring: Volunteers are wanted to tend the Park Circle Butterfly Garden on Sept. 14. The event is part of the Trident United Way's Day of Caring. Activities will include pruning, weeding, deadheading flowers and installing pine straw. Volunteers should bring sunscreen, insect repellent, hand pruners, work gloves and hat, reusable water bottle and a lawn chair. Visit www.keepnorthcharlestonbeautiful.org.
Plant swap: The third annual Fall Plant Swap takes place Sept. 25. Attendees at the free event swap their extra shrubs, divisions, house plants, garden art and tools. Volunteers wanted: The city of Charleston Greenhouse wants volunteers to join the Stewards of Hampton Park and help sow seeds, transplant and install garden beds. The need for volunteers at all experience levels is ongoing. Call 958-6434 to sign up.
flowerscapes for sponsorship: Those interested in becoming a flowerscape sponsor in North Charleston can help Keep North Charleston Beautiful to maintain an existing flower bed in a city park. Some maintenance tasks would include weeding, installing pine straw, deadheading flowers and pruning.
