— Clemson rebounded from a sluggish offensive start to rout North Texas, 35-10, in the season opener Saturday at Memorial Stadium.

Moncks Corner native Andre Ellington (12 carries, 123 rushing yards, two touchdowns) and Jamie Harper (nine carries, 101 yards, one touchdown) became the first pair of Clemson backs to reach 100 yards in a game since James Davis and C.J. Spiller each broke 100 yards against Maryland in 2007.

Ellington scored on a 70-yard touchdown run on Clemson’s second offensive play, but the Clemson offense bogged down until Kyle Parker shook off a slow start, connecting with Brandon Clear on a 70-yard score in the second quarter.

Parker completed 9 of 17 passes for 170 yards, two touchdowns, and an interception.

The Clemson defense had an uneven performance, allowing North Texas to rush for more than 100 yards in the first half. North Texas out-gained Clemson in the first half 234 yard to 228 yards.

Clemson led 21-7 at the half.

Tajh Boyd made his Clemson debut in the fourth quarter, throwing three incomplete passes.

True freshman DeAndre Hopkins made one catch for 16 yards, and another true freshman, Justin Parker, also played.
