Clemson releases schedule

CLEMSON -- Clemson men's basketball released its 30-game regular season schedule this week, a slate highlighted by a Nov. 30 home game against Michigan and a Dec. 22 trip to the College of Charleston.

Clemson will begin its season at 8 p.m. Nov. 12 at home against Western Carolina.

The Tigers will also participate in the Paradise Jam held Nov. 19-22 in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands.

"We're looking forward to an exciting season," Clemson basketball coach Brad Brownell said in a release. "I've repeatedly said that I think the ACC is the best basketball league in the country. This year the league looks to be as competitive as ever. It's going to be a lot of fun to go into some of the great venues in our league and play."

College soccer

--Blake Brettschneider scored a goal and assisted on the other in leading South Carolina to a 2-0 win over Clemson in a men's match in Columbia in the season opener for both teams.

--The College of Charleston women fell to No. 19 Cincinnati (4-0-1) in Gettler Stadium on the first leg of its road trip to Cincinnati. The Cougars (1-3-0) allowed two goals early in the second half and were unable to get back into the match before ultimately falling 2-0.

College volleyball

--Clemson defeated the University of South Carolina, 3-0 (26-24, 25-22, 25-19), in the first match of the Carolina Classic held at Winthrop University in Rock Hill. The Tigers (4-0) snapped a three-match series winning streak by the Gamecocks (0-4).

--The Citadel opened its second tournament in as many weekends with a pair of losses to Tennessee-Martin and Presbyterian College.

The Bulldogs opened with a 25-17, 25-15, 25-13 loss to UT-Martin in the early session. In the second match, the Blue Hose overcame an early 1-0 deficit to hold off The Citadel by scores of 19-25, 25-13, 25-20 and 26-24.

Tatum Jestila combined for 18 kills and 20 digs to lead the Bulldogs solid front row. She was joined by teammates Kaona Mercer (14 kills, three assisted blocks) and Jessica Maas (13 kills).

Junior libero Kathryn Johnston totaled 26 kills, while setters Erin Bucherl (32 assists)

and Alexa Dahlstrom (23 assists) piloted The Citadel offense.
