Furman releases more of report

Thursday, September 2, 2010

The Riley Institute at Furman University has released another portion of its online information resource, WhatWorksSC.

The new section about dropout-prevention strategies includes a report co-authored by Terry Peterson, the former deputy U.S. Secretary of Education under Secretary Richard Riley, and Jay Smink, executive director of the National Dropout Prevention Center/Network; a case study of Baptist Hill High School in Hollywood; and a clearinghouse of other dropout- prevention initiatives.

WhatWorksSC was unveiled in April, and it grew out of a 2007 Riley Institute study that identified what South Carolina residents want and expect in public education. The goal of WhatWorksSC is to help translate those research findings into practice.
