If the Bishop England boys soccer team is going to win its sixth straight state title, the Bishops have to play better than they did against Hanahan, coach Ed Khouri said after Saturday's 4-0 victory.

Joseph Santos scored a goal and added two assists to lead host Bishop England past Hanahan, 4-0, in the Class AA Lower State semifinals.

Despite dominating possession of the ball for large chunks of the match and outshooting the Hawks, 19-2, Khouri said there was plenty of room for improvement for the Bishops.

"We're just not very consistent in the attacking third right now," said Khouri, whose Bishops on Tuesday host Waccamaw, which beat Ashley Ridge, 1-0, on Saturday.

"Until we get on the same page and play as a unit, we're going to struggle against better teams. We had some very good individual moments, but collectively we didn't put things together like we should have.

"We're going to need a much cleaner effort Tuesday night because the teams will only get better from here on out."

Defensively, Khouri had little to complain about as the Bishops gave up just one quality scoring chance.

"We don't have any problems in the back," Khouri said. "We were pretty organized and we kept our shape."

After Wilson Carroll's goal was called back for an offside in the 27th minute, the Bishops finally broke through on Michael Masciale's goal in the 29th minute.

The Bishop pushed their advantage to 2-0 on Brian Byrne's goal just before the end of the first half.

"We were kind of a little sloppy in the first half," Santos said. "I thought we came out and played much better in the second half."

Brant Morrison gave the Bishops a 3-0 lead in 55th minute off a nice pass from Masciale, and Santos finished off the scoring in the 66th minute off a cross from Zach Epstein.

"They had nine or 10 guys behind the ball most of the game, so it was tough to get anything going on the attack," Santos said. "Most teams try to pack it back in against us. We're an offensive-minded team and we like to push forward."
