Brooks Kimsey Reitz

Date and place of birth: April 1984 in Evansville, Ind.

Residence: West Ashley.

Occupation: Manager at FIG restaurant downtown.

Family: My parents, Scott and Shelly; brothers, Chris and Ben; and son, Finn.

Education: Double majored in English and drama at Transylvania University, Lexington, Ky.

My job description: I help run the front of house operations with Adam Nemirow, who owns the restaurant with chef Mike Lata. We train staff, conduct service, book reservations, sweep floors, bus tables and continuously discuss ways to improve the restaurant. I am in charge of the bar and our cocktail program.

Words that best describe me: Curious, creative, driven, passionate, Dad.

Hobbies: Design, drawing, exercise, reading, travel, music, creating restaurant concepts.

Things I do in my spare time: Run, cook, read, eat, draw, spend time with friends, spend time with my son.

Favorite book: If forced to choose just one, any collection of Raymond Carver's short stories.

First job: Writing obituaries for my town's newspaper, The Gleaner.

Best advice I've ever been given: Never complain, never explain. It's attributed to Henry Ford. It's done wonders for me.

Something important life has taught me: Plan, plan, plan, and then adapt for what actually happens.
