Texas is already edging up towards 20 commitments for the 2011 class, and the Longhorns apparently would take wide receiver Hakeem Flowers (6-3, 189) of Greenville's Wade Hampton High if he wanted to commit.

"Coach (Mack) Brown verbally offered me but wanted a commitment on the spot, and I wasn't ready," said Flowers who recently visited Austin. "He said when I'm ready to commit to call him and he'll send an offer."

Flowers said he has 39 offers. They include Miami, LSU, Notre Dame, Tennessee, Auburn, Florida State, Georgia Tech, Oregon, Oregon State, Oklahoma and Colorado. He's not narrowed his list. He recently visited Oklahoma and Texas and will go to Oregon for a junior day April 3. He said he's not getting any direct contact from Clemson or South Carolina but plans to visit both over the summer. He doesn't have a favorites list.

USC is the lone major offer for Darlington RB Dominique Cooper at this point, but more big-time offers should be coming this spring and summer, according to Falcons coach Justin Danner. S.C. State also has offered Cooper, who rushed for 1,200 yards and 10 touchdowns last season. He averaged nine yards per carry. He also can play linebacker or free safety. Cooper attended USC's junior day and recruiter Ellis Johnson got a close up look. Cooper has not taken any other visits and has not scheduled any. And he apparently is not in a hurry to make a decision.

ATH Jerrell Adams of Scott's Branch has received verbal offers from Illinois and Arkansas, according to his coach, Leonard Johnson. Those are the first two offers from Adams. He's also been drawing interest from Clemson, USC, NC State and Nebraska. He attended Clemson's junior day.

DL Gerald Dixon Jr. of Northwestern is still sitting on just the one offer from USC at this point, and he continues to favor the Gamecocks right now. He attended USC's junior day last month. Dixon said he will make visits this spring and summer to North Carolina, Tennessee and LSU.

The offer list for Dorman WR Charone Peake has grown with Southern Cal, Notre Dame, Penn State and Miami putting their names on his board. Peake also has offers from Clemson, USC, Florida, Georgia, Tennessee,UNC, Cal, Michigan, Maryland, Kentucky, Alabama and LSU. He has visited Georgia and doesn't have any other visits planned right now, but he might get over to Clemson for a spring practice. He said he's looking very hard right now at Clemson, Florida and Georgia but is still open to each school that's offered.

OL Brandon Shell of Goose Creek hasn't done much with his football recruiting due to basketball. Now that he's hung up the sneakers for another season, Shell can spend some time working on his list and checking out some schools. He plans to take some visits during his spring break with Clemson, USC, Alabama and Georgia possible stops. Shell has multiple offers including those four schools, Southern Cal, Michigan, Tennessee, Florida, Miami, LSU, Wisconsin, Oregon, UNC, Illinois and Kentucky. He does not have a favorites list.

Bamberg-Ehrhardt DB Zeph Grimes has his first two SEC offers. Arkansas and Ole Miss. He previously was offered by Michigan State, Illinois, Colorado and Tulsa. Grimes went to junior day at Georgia Tech and is going to Tennessee on March 27 for a junior day. He's also going to Illinois on April 2. He said he's not getting much attention from Clemson and USC and this point. He has a top group of Georgia Tech, Illinois, Michigan State and Arkansas with no favorite. He said Illinois has been showing him the strongest interest.

Marlboro County LB Lateek Townsend on Wednesday was offered last week by Southern Cal, according to his coach, Dean Boyd. Townsend also has offers from Clemson, USC, N.C. State, Illinois, Maryland, LSU, Georgia Tech, Miami, Alabama, Tennessee, Nebraska, Michigan State and others. Clemson, USC and Florida are three schools he's had at the top of his list but he's not claiming any absolute favorites at this point.
