Wando upends Bishops
Robbie Dodds belted a two-run homer and Brad Cherry added a two-run single that lifted top-ranked and undefeated Wando to a 4-1 win over Bishop England at Father Kelly Field on Saturday.
Wando grabbed a 2-0 first- inning advantage. Connor Bright walked with one out and Dodds followed with a double to left center. After Evan Hunt struck out, Cherry delivered a two-run single to left field.
In the third, Bright led off with a double and Dodds followed with a towering two-run homer to left center that stretched the lead to 4-0. It was Dodds' fifth homer of the season.
Bastain's two-out single to left in the third inning scored Luke Navarro from third and cut the Warriors' advantage to 4-1.
Drew Cisco (1-0) surrendered a run on seven hits with no walks and seven strikeouts. He worked out of trouble in the sixth and seventh innings. Cisco struck out Alex Abrams with the bases loaded and one out in the sixth, then got Cameron Swails to pop out to end the threat. He struck out Drew Bastain to end the game.
Jimmy Lindberg took the loss, allowing four runs on six hits over the first five innings.
Wando, which improved to 5-0, plays at Summerville at 6 p.m. Monday.
The Bishops, now 3-3, play host to Woodland on Monday at 6 p.m.
