Men face federal indictment

Two Summerville men are accused of transporting stolen construction equipment across state lines.

Austin Davis, 26, and Allen Miller, 26, both are charged in a four-count federal indictment with interstate transportation of stolen property, according to a news release from Kevin F. McDonald, acting U.S. Attorney for South Carolina.

The indictment alleges between January and May 2009 that Davis and Miller unlawfully transported construction equipment reported stolen from work sites in South Carolina to Ohio, Kentucky, Virginia and North Carolina, knowing the equipment had been stolen, the release states.

The maximum penalty that Davis and Miller each could receive is a fine of $250,000 and 10 years in prison.

The case was investigated by the FBI and has been assigned to assistant U.S. attorney Rhett DeHart of the Charleston office for prosecution, the release states.
