Four set for Carolinas games

The Carolinas All-Star Basketball Classic and North-South All-Star Game rosters have been announced, and the Lowcountry is well-represented.
Berkeley's Bruce Ellington, Fort Dorchester's R.J. Slawson and Battery Creek's Brent Evans have been selected to play for the South Carolina boys team while West Ashley's Chentieh Ladson has been selected to play for the girls South Carolina team.
The event, in its 13th year, pits some of the top S.C. senior players against their North Carolina counterparts. It is scheduled for March 18-20 in Myrtle Beach.
Four local players were selected to the boys South team for the North-South game, set for March 20 at North Myrtle Beach High. The players are West Ashley's Matthew Kennedy, Goose Creek's DeVontae Wright, Burke's Del'Javon Simmons and Summerville's Mario Pendarvis.
Five local players were selected to play for the South girls: Bishop England's Mallory Molony, Wando's Emily Willoughby, Colleton County's Shalae Edwards, Burke's Alexis Jones and Timberland's Brianna Beauford.

Cisco honored
Wando pitcher Drew Cisco is a second-team pick for Baseball America's Preseason High School All-Americans.
The senior right-hander was The Post and Courier's player of the year last spring, posting a 6-3 record with a 1.87 ERA.He allowed 51 hits in 59 innings with 95 strikeouts. He is the only state player named to the first-, second- or third-team All-American squad.
Cisco made his season debut Thursday against Dorman in the first game of the International Paper Baseball Classic. He pitched five innings in front of more than two dozen scouts in Georgetown. He allowed three hits, two of them infield singles, and struck out seven.
Glover honored
Wando's Alexis Glover earned the 2009 South Sectional Coach of the Year award in volleyball by the National Federation of High School Coaches. The section includes Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, the Carolinas and Tennessee. The NFHS coaches association is the official national coaches association. All Sectional Coaches Award winners were considered for National Coach of the Year in their sport.
Glover has more than 600 career wins and numerous championships in her 29-year career as a volleyball coach in the state. She will get the award at the South Carolina Coaches Clinic in Greenville in July.

The Post and Courier is accepting nominations for its All- Lowcountry basketball teams. Coaches can nominate players and should e-mail the player's size, weight, position and grade with all pertinent information and statistics to pbowman@postandcourier.com.
