HT to open in LEED center
By Warren Wise
Mount Pleasant's newest Harris Teeter opens Wednesday in South Carolina's first environmentally friendly shopping center at Rivertowne Place at 2035 S.C. Highway 41.
Officials will cut the ribbon at 8 a.m. at the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design shopping center.
Ninety-five percent of construction waste was recycled, and 50 percent of wood used during construction came from certified sustainable forests at the 55,000-square-foot supermarket.
More than 20 percent of all building materials were manufactured within 500 miles of the store. Freezer cases feature energy-saving LED lighting, and all water fixtures include water- saving devices. The store is 18 percent more energy efficient than the industry average and uses 65 percent less refrigerant load.
The supermarket features nine checkout lanes and four self-checkout counters.
To celebrate the grand opening, the company will host a variety of events on the first three weekends after opening.
Giving back
Whole Foods Market in Mount Pleasant has chosen Adaptive Gardens of the Lowcountry as the recipient of its 5 Percent Day on Tuesday. The store selects one local nonprofit per quarter to receive 5 percent of one day's net sales on a certain day.

Market Street Saloon's grand opening at Northwoods Mall begins at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday with a ribbon-cutting, cooking demonstration, music and food.
