Thurmond picks up three endorsements
Paul Thurmond picked up three endorsements today from the also-rans in the GOP primary for the 1st Congressional District nomination.
First-place finisher state Rep. Tim Scott also got an endorsement in the race, from Katherine Jenerette of North Myrtle Beach.
Thurmond’s endorsements came from Stovall Witte and Ken Glasson, while third-place finisher Carroll Campbell is scheduled to formally announce he is backing Thurmond tomorrow.
Scott and Thurmond finished first and second, respectively, in Tuesday’s nine-way primary battle and will face off again in the final runoff election June 22.
Scott received 32 percent of the vote, while Thurmond, son of the late U.S. Sen. Strom Thurmond, had 16 percent.
Thurmond edged Campbell, son of the late Gov. Carroll Campbell, in the final results.
