Galleries, shops to host first Spoleto Stroll

Galleries and shops on two historic Charleston streets are collaborating for the first ever Spoleto Stroll on Friday.

Gallery Row on Broad Street and retail merchants on King Street will remain open from 5 to 8 p.m.

Strollers can enjoy light hors d'oeuvres and beverages with impromptu performances by roving musicians and performers from Spoleto Festival USA, Piccolo Spoleto and local talent.

Gallery Row will have more than 15 galleries with local and nationally acclaimed artists presenting original paintings, works in bronze, copper, sculpture, charcoal and pottery.

One of the major presentations will be at the Edward Dare Gallery featuring works in bronze, limestone and iron by sculptor Tom Player and coastal-inspired oils by painter Sara Jane Doberstein.

King Street stores from the Upper King Design District to Lower King's Antique District will remain open to invite strollers to enjoy a Spoleto evening.

One of the featured presentations will be at Mary Helen McCoy's Fine Antiques with John Dunnan's figurative, plaster statues paired with McCoy's Period French antiques.

Food line

--Hammett's Landing, a new restaurant featuring seafood and wild game, opens Monday at 901 Island Park Drive on Daniel Island.

It replaces former Italian restaurant Sienna, which closed in January.

The new restaurant will be operated by Bo and Tamra Hammett, formerly of Boston.

--Also, Coleman Public House recently opened at 427 Coleman Blvd. in Mount Pleasant, near Shem Creek. The upscale-casual restaurant and pub serves eclectic American fare for lunch and dinner.

The main menu features salads, homemade burgers and flatbreads, gourmet fries, fish and chips, pastas and pub specialties. It also offers an extensive lineup of craft-brewed and imported beers and other adult beverages.

Chic boutique

Shannon and Mary Hess recently opened a boutique accessory store, Posh, at 129 Central Ave. in Summerville. The store features fashion-forward purses, belts and jewelry from local and international designers.

The husband and wife team owned the popular store Purses and Such, and Posh was born out of clients' requests to trend upward in their product line.

Purses and Such is now an online-only operation.

Offshoot

D.C. Thornley recently opened a military surplus store called Bravo Seven at 1304C N. Main St. next to Jiffy Lube in Summerville. The shop is open Tuesday through Friday and on weekends at the fairgrounds in Ladson.
