Fire destroys family home

Tuesday, July 27, 2010

LADSON — A family of four was burned out of their home today in an early morning blaze.

Two adults and two children were left homeless when the fire destroyed their Cornell Drive residence. Volunteers with the Lowcountry chapter of the American Red Cross provided funds to replace food and clothing lost in the fire, and comfort kits with emergency supplies. The children each received stuffed animals. The family was referred to agencies to help with the long-term recovery.

The Red Cross will continue to monitor the needs of the victims, and mental health counselors will follow up as needed.

Since January 1, the American Red Cross has assisted 667 victims of home fires in its seven county Region, which includes Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Hampton and Jasper Counties. Members of our community can support local victims of disaster similar to this Lowcountry family by contacting the American Red Cross at 843-764-2323 ext. 368 or by going to www.LowcountryRedCross.org to make a donation.
