Floral Design 101: Artist Kelli Shaw of Kelli Shaw Designs will teach how to bring nature into your home with floral arrangements at a Charleston Horticultural Society class Thursday. She will cover techniques to incorporate found and purchased elements. Feel free to bring a vase or container, oasis, a bucket and greens/flowers to create an arrangement. The class takes place 10 a.m.-noon, 46 Windemere Blvd., West Ashley. Preregistration is required. The fee for CHS members is $10, nonmembers, $20. Cool Crops for Cool Weather: A hands-on gardening workshop will be held Aug. 21 at Clemson University Coastal Research & Education Center. The workshop will focus on growing vegetables and fruit in the Lowcountry year-round in containers and gardens. It takes place 8-11:30 a.m. at the center, 2700 Savannah Hwy. Reservations and $20 fee required. Attendees will plant a salad bowl garden to take home and gardening books will be sold.
