I-385 rebuilding effort in S.C. finished weeks early

GREENVILLE — Work to rebuild 15 miles of Interstate 385 in northern South Carolina is wrapping up weeks ahead of schedule.

State Department of Transportation officials are planning to hold a ceremony at a rest area today to celebrate the end of work on the highway that serves as the main link from Greenville to Columbia and Charleston.

Originally, officials had said all lanes wouldn’t be done until Aug. 15.

About 15 miles of northbound I-385 have been closed since January while crews replaced asphalt with high-strength concrete, widened the interstate and added shoulders to the road.

A flyover bridge connecting I-26 and I-385 was also replaced.
