Thousands expected for SC coastal festival

BEAUFORT — Tens of thousands of people are expected to flock to the South Carolina coast for an annual water festival.

The Beaufort Water Festival is now in its 55th season. It opens on Friday and features an evening concert by the Parris Island Marine Band followed by a fireworks display.

The festival continues with more than a week of entertainment and activities featuring sporting and sailing events, concerts and other activities.

Each season, the festival attracts an estimated 100,000 people to Beaufort on the state’s south coast.

The festival concludes on July 25 with a parade of boats and a blessing of the fleet on the Beaufort River.
