Breslin loses bid to take mayor's former seat
By Edward Fennell
FOLLY BEACH -- Donald "D.J." Rich won Tuesday's special election to fill a vacant City Council seat.
Unofficial results have Rich, the owner of Planet Follywood, with 54 percent of the vote. Susan Breslin, a city planning consultant, got 46 percent.
The results
Donald Rich 317
Susan Breslin 267
Rich will take the seat that became vacant when Councilman Tim Goodwin was elected mayor on April 6.
Both Breslin and Rich were candidates for council in the April 6 election, but neither garnered enough votes to win. Breslin was in a runoff election April 22 with incumbent Council Member Laura Beck, who bested Breslin and retained her seat.
Rich said Tuesday night he was excited to be joining council and worked hard to get his supporters out. "We always said it all depends on who gets their supporters out," Rich said.
Breslin said that after coming up short in three campaigns for council this year that she won't run again. "I am moving on to other ventures," which may include joining campaigns for candidates in general elections this November, she said.
