The Unknown Hinson

The Unknown Hinson is the self-proclaimed "King of the Country Western Troubadours." While its eerie, vampirish, old man shrouded in mystery has captivated audiences for several years, its the alter-ego's creator/impersonator Stuart Daniel Baker that deserves all the credit.

Baker is also a voice actor appearing on Adult Swim's "Squidbillies," but don't think that Baker will break character when impersonating Unknown Hinson. He vehemently denies any connection to Baker and wears vintage cowboy costumes -- think "Three Amigos" -- with slicked-back hair and fangs all while singing audaciously hilarious, country tunes with titles such as, "Peace, Love and Hard Liquor" and "I Ain't Afraid of Your Husband."

The Unknown Hinson will appear at the Pour House Friday with Ryan Bonner and The Dearly Beloved. Tickets are $15 at Rtix.com and at the door. Doors open at 10 p.m.

Cosmic Charlie

Grateful Dead cover band Cosmic Charlie will bring its acclaimed revival to the Pour House's main stage Saturday.

What began several years ago as a one-time performance has become a full-time career for this Athens, Ga.-based tribute act. The idea originally was intended to perform unusual versions of Grateful Dead covers as a "one-night-only" act for a Jerry Garcia birthday tribute a few years ago in Athens. But when the band began receiving so many offers for large gigs, the members decided to continue their crowd-pleasing performances.

The renditions are precise, fluid and focus more on the spirit of The Dead rather than on mirroring the actual songs, making them as close to the actual band as any Deadhead is likely to hear.

The Pour House is at 1977 Maybank Highway. Doors open at 10 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are $10 and are available at Etix.com or at the door. Call 571-4343 or visit http://charlestonpourhouse.com.
