Busy musician and videographer listens to some tunes
This exciting episode of "Here Listen To This" puts us in front of musician/videographer Bandi Tomaschek. When not playing in The Dragonfly Hunters, The Mexico Electric, The Carson Mcullers or his side project, The Double, Bandi does some visual wierdness on the side. You can hear some of Bandi's music at www.myspace.com/bandipal and if you'd like to see him work stop motion magic visit http://www.youtube.com/user/frenchkisscoma . Now it's time for Bandi to get some shine.
Nine Inch Nails, "Hurt"
"Hurt" is a very powerful and heavy song. The darkness of the lyrics and the gentle melodies of the guitar and piano create a really intense feeling.

Anvil, "Metal On Metal"
Anyone who has seen "Anvil! The Story of Anvil" knows that these guys are some of the most dedicated Canadian rockers in the industry. My brother met Anvil recently after a show in Cleveland and said that Lips (guitar and vox) and Robb Reiner (drums) were some of the nicest people he has talked to. This was their "one hit wonder" tune and its passing turned them into a real live Spinal Tap. The song is actually not that bad. It has good solid metal riffs and a short and sweet vocal hook, which is 66.6 percent "metal"! If only Lips would play his solo with a huge pink appendage⦠oh wait, he does!

Johnny Cash, "Hurt"
If Johnny Cash wants to cover your song, you've done well. It's cool to hear Johnny Cash sing this song because he has been down in some deep holes himself. He keeps the song authentic.

Acid Mothers Temple, "What Do I Want To Know (Like Heavenly Kisses Part 2)"
This makes me want to sit for hours on the side of a very large mountain. I love anything that has a drone sound to it. This music really needs to be listened to at full volume with some nice headphones. They create such awesome landscapes with their eclectic and ever-changing sound. I've listened to three of their albums and they all sound different. They can go from minimal drone songs like this one, to extremely fast, loud, noise rock. At either end of the spectrum they leave my head spinning.

Kermit The Frog, "Hurt"
If anyone knows anything about the hell of heroine it's Kermit the Frog. His interpretation of this song really unleashes some demons that Reznor and Cash failed to summon.

Roxy Music, "Ladytron"
The Roxy Music self title is one of my favorite rock albums of all time. Bryon Ferry is a glam rock god, and if anyone wants to disagree they need to watch the live version of "Ladytron" and check out the amazing costumes. If a song ends in a ball of noise then it has my vote.
