Cremins' chair from UNC game fetches $1,100
A metal folding chair with padded seat and back doesn't fall into the fine furniture category. Unless someone pays $1,100 for it.
That's what an unnamed fan bid for the maroon folding chair College of Charleston men's basketball coach Bobby Cremins occupied at Carolina First Arena during the Cougars' stunning 82-79 overtime win over then- No. 9 North Carolina on Jan. 4.
"That's great. It's wonderful," Cremins said after hearing of the winning bid.
The school pulled the chair after the win, and after Cremins and the team signed it, the College of Charleston put it up for auction to benefit Cougars' athletics. Bidding ended at 3 p.m. Wednesday.
Andrew McGlaughon, director of marketing for the College of Charleston athletic department, said the school would not know the identity of the successful buyer until today.
