CLEMSON – The splash from Lane Kiffin’s departure from Tennessee has rippled to Clemson, but for now Dabo Swinney’s staff remains intact.

Clemson defensive coordinator Kevin Steele was head coach at Baylor from 1999 to 2002.

ESPN reported Thursday that Tennessee might be interested in talking to Clemson defensive coordinator Kevin Steele about its vacant head coaching job. Steele said Thursday afternoon he had not been contacted about the position.

“Nobody has contacted me or tried to talk to me at all,” Steele said.

Tennessee plans to name a head coach this weekend, and Steele said that if he were a candidate he would have been contacted by Thursday.

The Vols are desperate to keep together a semblance of their recruiting class less than a month from National Signing Day. Tennessee has already been spurned by Texas assistant Will Muschamp.

Duke’s David Cutcliffe and Air Force’s Troy Calhoun are reportedly atop the list.
