Wreck involves firetruck, SUV

SUMMERVILLE -- Two firefighters suffered minor injuries Tuesday after a firetruck collided with a sport-utility vehicle.
The wreck happened at 1:27 p.m. at the intersection of Cedar and West 1st North streets. Lance Cpl. Bob Beres of the S.C. Highway Patrol said four firefighters were riding on a firetruck when it struck a 2004 Toyota SUV that ran a red light.
The firetruck was not responding to a call at the time, Beres said. Fire Chief Marc Melfi said the truck was traveling about 20 mph. Melfi said the driver hit the brakes after one of the firefighters yelled out that the SUV wasn't going to stop.
Firefighters Michael Weatherford and Troy Millen were taken to a local hospital after complaining of headaches and back pain, Beres said. Melfi said they were released shortly after.
Beres said the Toyota was southbound on Cedar Street when it ran a red light. The firetruck, heading west, struck the Toyota in the driver's side. The Toyota's driver, Angela Whitman, 38, of Summerville, was uninjured, Beres said.
Beres said the wreck is under investigation and no charges have been filed.
