Prison inmate from Dorchester County dies after stabbing
Attack occurred at maximum-security McCormick Correctional Institution

A South Carolina Department of Corrections prison inmate from Dorchester County was assaulted Saturday morning at the maximum-security McCormick Correctional Institution and died from apparent stab wounds.
Lamont Perry, 26, was attacked by another inmate about 7:30 a.m. inside a dormitory at the prison in McCormick County. He was pronounced dead a short time later.
The Department of Corrections and S.C. Law Enforcement Division are investigating the attack.
Perry began serving a 15-year sentence for second-degree criminal sexual conduct in 2005. He was sentenced in Dorchester County.
Criminal sexual conduct in the second degree occurs when the offender uses aggravated coercion to accomplish sexual battery. The penalty is up 20 years behind bars.
