Crime Stoppers and area law enforcement agencies are asking the public for help in locating a woman accused of breaking into homes and stealing checkbooks, then cashing the stolen checks up and down the South Carolina coast.
Teresa Dean Crawford, 26, of Goose Creek, is wanted by multiple jurisdictions for burglary and forgery, said Charleston Police Sgt. Fred Bowie, Crime Stoppers coordinator.
"She's been a one-person crime spree," Bowie said.
Arrest warrants have been issued by Charleston police charging Crawford with burglary and forgery. She is wanted by North Charleston police for burglary, and for forgery by police in Lake City, Goose Creek and the Charleston County Sheriff's Office, Bowie said.
In the Charleston case, about six weeks ago a home was burglarized west of the Ashley and checks were stolen, Bowie said.
"The checks started popping up in Pawleys Island and up the coast," he said. "Then they started showing up back in Charleston County again.
"We think she is living locally, and we want to get her off the street."
Crawford is 26 years old, 5 feet 4 inches tall, 170 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes. Her last known address was at 1004 Redbank Road, Goose Creek.
