Baby dies from fire at home

A 6-month-old child that firefighters pulled from a burning mobile home late Wednesday night has died.

Charleston County Coroner Rae Wooten said Destiny Kelly died as a result of smoke inhalation about 1 a.m. Friday at Medical University Hospital.

She and her mother had been pulled from a single-wide mobile home on U.S. Highway 78 in Ladson about 11 p.m. Wednesday by North Charleston firefighters. The child's mother, Deborah Kelly, remains in critical condition at Roper Hospital.

North Charleston Battalion Chief Bud Green said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
