State environmental regulators have fined TransGlobal Trucking, a St. George hazardous waste hauler, $95,000 for a laundry list of pollution violations, ranging from improper record-keeping to failure to design and maintain a facility that minimizes "the possibility of fire, explosion or any unplanned sudden" release of hazardous waste.

In an agreement with the state Department of Health and Environmental Control, the company agreed to pay the fine and ensure that wastes are properly handled, and that no sewage and industrial wastes are dumped into the environment without a permit.

Jimmy Beliveau, facility manager of TransGlobal Trucking, said that the company changed the operation's management to handle the issue and removed all hazardous waste from the site. "We currently do not transport hazardous waste, therefore eliminating future problems," he said.

According to a consent order, the fine stems from inspections DHEC made in 2007, 2008 and 2009.

During each visit, inspectors identified problems in the way the company stored hazardous waste. Inspectors said they found that some hazardous wastes were being mixed with non-hazardous waste. They found some of the containers were damaged and leaking, and that the company didn't have proper fire protection and spill-control equipment.
