Campbell suggests federal job freeze

Saturday, February 13, 2010

First District Congressional hopeful Tumpy Campbell said Thursday that he supports U.S. Sen. Jim DeMint's call for a one-year moratorium on earmarks and a balanced budget amendment, but Campbell also wants to see a federal employment freeze.

"Senator Jim DeMint said that our nation is headed for a fiscal catastrophe, and I agree," Campbell in a statement. "My proposal -- which would include all civilian, legislative and judicial federal government employment -- would help slow rampant spending and allow us to reevaluate government from the ground up."

Military positions would be exempted, and departments could transfer full-time and part-time positions internally. Campbell said that would allow for increases in our federal law enforcement capabilities, if needed.
