Feed the Need

The generosity of the Charleston food and beverage community continues as Charleston Chefs Feed the Need moves into the new year. February participants are:

--Feb. 17, Red's Ice House at Meals on Wheels.

New at Muse

Chef Jason Houser has left Muse Restaurant to answer the call of a muse of his own. Chef Tom Egerton is now top toque and is launching new dinner and lunch specials in time for Valentine's Day and the Southeastern Wildlife Exposition on Feb. 12-14.

Beard honoree

Sienna shuttered

The Palio of pasta treats is no more. Sienna Restaurant at 901 Island Park Drive, Daniel Island, closed last week. The property is for sale. No information is available at this time about the chef and staff.

Battery Tuesdays

The Charleston Battery has teamed up with The Buccaneer and Queen Anne's Revenge to offer a special "Battery Tuesdays -- Kids Eat Free" promotion for local youth soccer players. Beginning Tuesday, children who come to either restaurant on Tuesday nights and are wearing a soccer jersey will eat for free. Who dat celebrating?

The Glass Onion will ring in Mardi Gras on Tuesday with draft beer specials on Coast IPA: $10 per pitcher and $3 per pint. The Glass Onion, 1219 Savannah Highway, will honor its Louisiana connection with beads, king cake and an array of New Orleans-inspired culinary delights. Valentine sparkles

Laura Alberts' Tasteful Options will host a Valentine's Sparkling Wine Dinner on Saturday with a reception at 7 p.m. followed by dinner at 7:30 p.m. The four-course dinner by executive chef Matt Brigham will be paired with sparkling wines from Grassroots Wine distributors. Laura Alberts also plans a four-course beer dinner Feb. 18 with a reception at 6:30 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. Beers from Sierra Nevada Brewery of Chico, Calif., will be featured, including Pale Ale, Glissade, Porter, Big Foot and Torpedo Extra IPA. The cost is $45 per person plus tax and gratuity. Reservations required; call 881-4711.

Get Social on Sundays

Social Wine Bar and Restaurant is serving on Sundays. To kick off the initiation,

Social will offer a three-course menu for $25 plus tax and gratuity starting this weekend. Social is at 188 East Bay St. Call 577-5665.

New happy hour

Il Cortile del Re at 193 King St. has introduced a new happy hour 4:30-6:30 p.m. Monday-Friday. The restaurant will serve discounted appetizers, $20 house wine pitchers, $4 well drinks and $2 off wines by the glass. Call 853-1888.

Melvin's rolls back

Four for $38

The popular program of four courses for $38 continues at Grill 225.

Sunfire rises anew

Christophe Artisan Chocolatier-Patissier, which opened last spring in I'On, has branched out to a second location at 363 1/2 King St. Just in time for your Valentine's Day pleasures.

Beginning today, McCrady's Restaurant chef Sean Brock and sommelier Clint Sloan plan to shake up Charleston's bar scene with a new pre-Prohibition cocktail list and snack menu available 5-10:30 p.m. every night, providing guests with small-plate options when they may not be seeking a multicourse meal.
