Colleton sheriff’s office seeks information in nightclub shooting
Updated 01:51 p.m., February 8, 2010
A woman and a man were shot early this morning at a Colleton County nightclub.
Shonda Donaldson, 35, and Cheumalt Omega Gathers, 26, were wounded by gunfire about 2 a.m. at the Apollo Lounge just outside Walterboro, Colleton County Sheriff George Malone said in a news release. Donaldson was shot in the arm and the side; she was taken to a Charleston are hospital and is in stable condition, the release said. Gathers was shot in the arm; he was treated and released from Colleton Regional Hospital. Sheriff’s deputies stopped a car carrying one of the victims from the lounge; the other victim was taken to the hospital by private car.
It’s the second shooting to occur at the club since Dec. 13 when a man was shot in the arm, and the third shooting to take place on Rivers Street in that time. On Jan. 17, a man and a 12-year-old girl were struck by gunfire at a Rivers Street home. Both the man and the girl survived the shooting. No one has been charged. Police have been working to stem a wave of violence in the area that is said to be gang related.
The incident today is being investigated by the sheriff’s office. Anyone with information should contact the office at 843-549-2211; the South Carolina Law Enforcement Division at 803-554-5700, or Crime Stoppers of the Low Country at 1-888-274-6372.
