Chase ends after suspect crashes

Monday, February 8, 2010

An afternoon police chase in North Charleston ended with the pursued driver crashing into a utility pole. The driver wasn't injured, police said, but the wreck knocked out power to about 1,300 households less than two hours before the Super Bowl kickoff.

South Carolina Electric & Gas said it restored power to all the customers within 45 minutes.

Officers had attempted to stop the vehicle after a hit-and-run crash. The vehicle sped off, eventually crashing into a utility pole at King Street Extention and Azalea Drive, police said.

The driver was arrested. No one was injured in the initial hit-and-run.
