Shelter says program success
By Almar Flotildes
The Charleston Animal Society said its "Free Over Three" promotion to save as many cats as possible is a success.
Sixty-six animals already have been adopted since Thursday afternoon, said Jim Bush, the society's executive director.
Most of the adoptions were adult cats, which are the most at risk for euthanasia, Bush said.
The society is waiving adoption fees until Valentine's Day for cats 3 years of age or older.
The society still needs people to come out and adopt, and about 30 more cats will be spayed or neutered Monday and ready for adoption Tuesday.
Recently, the society has had an unusually high intake of cats along with few adoptions, Bush said.
The animal society is at 2455 Remount Road in North Charleston. For more information, call 747-4849 or visit www.charlestonanimalsociety.org.
