Cart gives Buddy new lease on life

Sunday, February 7, 2010

We adopted Buddy from the Grateful Golden Rescue when he was 4 months old. His back legs just didn't seem to work well and he was unable to walk properly. He would take a few steps then fall down.

We were told he had not been immunized and our veterinarian thought maybe parasites had infiltrated his spinal column causing nerve damage. We hoped as he grew and became stronger he would be able to walk normally.

Buddy’s wheel cart helps him keep up with his canine sister.

Unfortunately, as he got older, he did not improve. Upon further examinations, Buddy's veterinarian determined his coordination problems were the result of a damaged cerebellum.

As we all were busy trying to figure out what was wrong with Buddy, he continued to grow and find ways to get himself around. He is such a happy little boy. If he falls, which is often, he picks himself right back up and continues along or he decides it's time for a little nap.

The day his human parents decided to buy his wheel cart was the best day in his life.

The instructions said it might take a few days for the dog to learn how to use the cart. But as soon as Buddy was hooked up, he took off running and hasn't looked back. He can now keep up with his big sister, Mazie, and he loves going to the beach to swim. We were amazed to find out that Buddy can swim like a fish!
