Boat names, trucking hire highlight wheels and waves enterprises
By Jim Parker
Looking to buy a big rig, or name a big boat? Well, you've come to the right place.
A local trucking dealership has hired a new chief, and one of the country’s largest boating organizations has unveiled its list of top vessel monickers.
Triple play
A Marine Corps veteran and former heavy equipment executive has been picked to run the Triple-T outlet in Berkeley County.
Craig A. Sanford is general manager of Triple-T Freightliner, Sterling, Western Star of Charleston. The venture is located at 155 Farmington Road in Summerville.
Triple-T is a commercial truck dealership group with operations in three North Carolina cities and two places in South Carolina.
Sanford was in the Marine Corps, spent 12 years in the equipment rental and sales industry and then was tapped as vice president of a top Caterpillar dealership.
His wealth of experience in equipment sales, service, parts and rentals played a role in being named to the Triple-T post. Sanford lives in Charleston with his wife and two children.
Triple-T recently moved into expanded facilities in Summerville, added staff and became affiliated with NationaLease lease and rental group. Tim Matt is the owner and chief executive and Stewart Brown is president. The Web site is www.wemeantrucks.com.
Floating out a few names
The most popular signature for a boat is “Second Wind,” a phenomenon that can come in handy when the initial gales die away.
But it was a new name to the list that stirred comments in a time of financial struggles nationwide according to Boat Owners Association of The United States, or BoatU.S.
BoatU.S. recently came out with its top 10 name list, noting that the fifth most common pick is “Bail Out.”
The title “clearly speaks volumes about what’s on boaters’ minds,” BoatU.S. President Nancy Michelman said. “With today’s economic uncertainty, naming a boat ‘Bail Out’ could indicate that boating is a survival mechanism for the family that will keep them afloat.”
The 2010 list in order is Second Wind, Seas the Day, Lazy Daze, Jolly Roger, Bail Out, On the Rocks, Pegasus, Serenity Now, Namaste and Comfortably Numb.
The top 10 has been compiled each year, dating at least to 1991, by the BoatU.S. Boat Graphics service. The group offers a free library of more than 8,500 boat names while allowing boaters to select, custom design and preview names online.
For more information, visit the online service at www.BoatUS.com/boatgraphics.
Boat Owners Association of The United States describes itself as the nation’s leading advocate for recreational boaters, providing more than 500,000 members with government representation, programs and services.
