Coin collectors rejoice! Annual winter show is this weekend
When I was a kid, I used to have a "one cent" penny and an old Canadian dime that I used to keep on top of my dresser drawer.
Due to their uniqueness, and not knowing much about coins or coin collecting, I thought they might have been worth something.
In the 1980's, there was no Internet to consult on such matters, and by the '90s, I had forgotten all about them.
Perhaps I should have consulted the Charleston Lowcountry Coin Club, who will be holding its 2010 Lowcountry Coin Club Annual Winter Show this weekend at the Exchange Park in Ladson.
Organizers promise a full house of coin and coin-related vendors from throughout the Southeast.
Enthusiasts are encouraged to buy, sell or have items appraised.
There will be dealers specializing in coins, tokens, currency, medals, gold and silver, both foreign and domestic, as well as vendors who specialize in stamps and collecting supplies.
Admission is free with a valid picture ID, there's plenty of parking, which is also free. There will be special activities for children.
The Charleston Lowcountry Coin Club's stated, primary goal is to "reach out to others that are interested in our hobby."
The club's big event in Ladson this weekend promises to attract coin enthusiasts, both old and new.
