Traffic was backed up on Savannah Highway in West Ashley for about an hour Wednesday morning as authorities investigated a wreck with multiple injuries.

About 10:48 a.m., a woman driving a car south on U.S. Highway 17 in front of Cactus Car Wash was in the center turning lane, trying to turn left into an office complex, when she turned into the path of a car traveling north, Charleston Police public information officer Charles Francis said.

The woman’s car was struck by the oncoming car. Her car flipped over and skidded toward the sidewalk, where two bicyclists were riding, Francis said.

Both drivers and the two bicyclists were transported to local hospitals, but none had life-threatening injuries, Francis said. The woman was cited for failure to yield the right of way, he said.

The wreck was cleared about 11:40 a.m., Francis said.
