Where: Pet Helpers Spay and Neuter Clinic, 1447 Folly Road
Details: Male cats will be neutered for $15. Two vaccines are required. Cat owners will need to show proof of current Rabies and FVRCP (Distemper combo) vaccinations for their pet or they may get the vaccines on the day of the surgery for $5 each. Microchips will be also available for $10. Cat owners must make an appointment and only tame cats are eligible.

What: Flatwork, Foundation for Agility

Details: The fee is $99; Charleston Animal Society adopters get a 15 percent discount. No previous agility experience is necessary. Dogs must have completed an obedience class.

What: Canine Communication 101
Who: Charleston Animal Society
When: Puppy class, 6:30 p.m. Wednesdays or Thursdays for six weeks starting Sept. 8; Adult class, 7:30 p.m. Wednesdays for six weeks starting Sept. 8.
Where: 2455 Remount Road, North Charleston.
Details: The fee is $99; Charleston Animal Society adopters get a 15 percent discount. Socialization with other dogs and people is a major focus. Specific obedience commands will also be taught. Please bring a copy of vaccination records to the class.

What: Second annual Leslie McCravy 5K Run/Walk benefiting Pet Helpers
Who: Pet Helpers
When: 8 a.m. Sept. 11
Where: Folly Beach Pier
Details: Registration $25 through Sept. 1, includes T-shirt. Kids 12 and under, $10; After Sept. 1, registration is $30 for adults and $15 for children. No pets will be permitted on the race course.

What: Second annual Dog Day Afternoon
Who: Charleston County Parks
When: Noon-5 p.m., Sept. 12
Where: Whirlin' Waters Waterpark, Wannamaker Park
Details: Large dogs can romp around in the Big Kahuna wave pool, while their smaller counterparts can make a splash in the refreshing Otter Bay kiddie pool. Owners will not be allowed in the water. Beverages for humans will be available for purchase. Advance admission is $10 per dog ($8 per Charleston County dog) and all owners are free with their pets. Tickets are limited. Proof of current vaccinations is required for entry.

What: Lowcountry Paws and Claws Pet Expo
When: 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 18
Where: Exchange Park Fairgrounds
Details: Bring your furry or feathered friend to the second annual Lowcountry Paws & Claws Pet Expo, a free event sponsored by The Post and Courier, that includes fun and educational demonstrations and presentations and more.

North Charleston Details: The fee is $99; Charleston Animal Society adopters get a 15 percent discount. This class is designed for the dog with previous obedience class experience. On the last day, students will have the opportunity to take the 10-step test to receive Canine Good Citizen (CGC) certification.
