Events in the coming weeks that piqued our interest

For your kids, the Charleston Museum will hold a Petite Protocol program 9-11 a.m. Aug. 7 at 360 Meeting St. This special back-to-school manners workshop will be taught at the museum by Lizz Ackerman of Southern Protocol. The program will include fun, interactive and engaging activities that remind children how to be courteous, respectful and confident in the classroom. Ages 6-10. The fifth annual Tennis Block Party will be 9 a.m.-noon Aug. 7 at the Family Circle Tennis Center, 161 Seven Farms Drive, Daniel Island. The party is designed to showcase the center's various tennis programs. The event will feature music, games, tennis drills, snacks, raffles and a complimentary cookout lunch. The event is free. Aug. 7 is National Lighthouse Day. The Coast Guard Historic District will hold an open house at the Sullivan's Island lighthouse, 1815 I'On Ave., from 1-4 p.m. The open house will include the grounds, boathouse and lighthouse. Refreshments will be served and poet Ginger "Shaw" Bell will be available to sign copies of the poem and artwork "There Stands an Image." The event is free. Call 883-3123.

Theatre Charleston will hold its season kick-off party Gin and Jazz at 6:30 p.m. Aug. 8 at Pepper Plantation, 1145 Chandler Road, Awendaw. The party will feature a "Roaring '20s" theme, live jazz from Charlton Singleton, Leah Suarez and Jazz Artists of Charleston, a speakeasy area, games, an open bar, costume and dance contests and more. 1920s-inspired costumes are encouraged. $40 singles, $70 couples . Yoga Benefits Kids presents the first Lowcountry Living Picnic 6-9 p.m. Aug. 11 at Folly River Park, Center Street, Folly Beach. The picnic will feature food from local restaurants such as The Glass Onion and J.B.'s Smokeshack, an open bar, live music from DJ Danny Seltzer and an after-party at Surf Bar.
