Submit pet photo for 2011 calendar
Lowcountry Paws is currently accepting submissions for the 2011 Lowcountry Paws calendar.
The deadline for submissions for the contest, which is sponsored by The Post and Courier, is Aug. 11. To enter or for more information, visit contest.postandcourier.com.
The 24 finalists will be posted by Sept. 1 and public voting will take place through Sept. 20.
Voting will be online at localclicks.postandcourier.com and in person at the 2010 Lowcountry Paws and Claws Pet Expo, which is 11 a.m.-4 p.m. Sept. 18 at Exchange Park in Ladson.
Visitors to the Expo are invited to bring their pets for demonstrations, presentations, information from local rescues and local businesses that cater to pets' needs.
The 12 pets that receive the most votes in the contest will be declared the winners and will be featured in the 2011 calendar.

Willis SPCA offers deal on cats
The Frances R. Willis SPCA, 136 Four Paws Lane, Summerville, is having a "Half-Priced CATastic Weekend" Friday through Aug. 8.
The event will take place 10 a.m.-5 p.m. each day.
Kittens and cats will be adopted for half of the regular fee. The adoption fee includes spay/neuter surgery, rabies shot, vaccinations, feline leukemia/AIDS test, a free vet visit and a microchip. Call 871-3820 or e-mail adoption@summervillespca.com.
Discounts offered for bully surgeries
Owners of bully breed dogs in the Charleston area can take advantage of a new program offering $20 spay/neuter surgeries for pit bull terriers, American Staffordshire terriers, American bulldogs, Staffordshire bull terriers, and bully breed mixes.
The offer is good at Pet Helpers Spay/Neuter Clinic, 1447 Folly Road, James Island, and at Charleston Animal Society Spay/Neuter Clinic, 2455 Remount Road, North Charleston.
One in every four dogs dying in shelters is a bully breed or bully breed mix.

Pet Helpers sets neuter-a-thon
Pet Helpers Spay/Neuter Clinic, 1447 Folly Road, James Island, is holding a male cat neuter-a-thon Aug. 29.
Male cats will be neutered for $15. Two vaccines are required for this service.
Cat owners will need to show proof of current rabies and FVRCP (distemper combo) vaccinations for their pet, or they may get the vaccines on the day of the surgery.
With surgery, the cost for each shot is $5. Microchips also will be available at the reduced rate of $10. Only tame cats are eligible.
