'Final Charge' part of L.L. Bean experience
FREEPORT, Maine -- No visit to Maine would be complete without a visit to the flagship location of L.L. Bean.
Located just a few miles north of Portland, Maine, off U.S. Highway 1, you can find casual clothing, home goods, bicycles, canoes and kayaks, and hunting and fishing supplies in the store, which is open 24 hours a day.
And if you can't make it on a real moose safari, stop by and see one of the most dramatic moose presentations around: a taxidermy exhibit that can be seen from inside or outside the store of two large bull moose whose antlers are locked in deadly combat.
Titled "Final Charge," the interlocked antlers were discovered in spring 2006. The two moose are thought to have charged each other during the fall mating season and were unable to separate themselves. They eventually died of exhaustion or starvation.
