Campbell eying bid for Congress

Tuesday, September 22, 2009

Charleston businessman Carroll Campbell III, son of the late S.C. Gov. Carroll Campbell, is expected to announce Wednesday that he will challenge U.S. Rep. Henry Brown in the GOP primary next year.

Campbell has expressed interest in the race for months and has scheduled a major announcement at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Mount Pleasant pier at the foot of the Arthur Ravenel Jr. Bridge. He also plans other announcement speeches in Georgetown and Myrtle Beach, the northern end of the 1st Congressional District that Brown has represented since 2000. His campaign said Campbell also plans to make stops Thursday in Summerville and Goose Creek but didn't cite the time and place for those stops.
